New Moon in Capricorn 2024: a short psychodrama

New Moon in Capricorn 2024: a psychodrama by lauren k. hickman

Scene: the celestial board room, Thursday 1/11, early morning

New Moon in Capricorn: Alright team, time to focus. Venus, you’re on the vision board

Venus:(sitting in lotus posture, eyes closed) Shhh.

New Moon: Um, Venus, we had this meeting scheduled for like, eternity, let’s check in.

Venus: Come back to me, please. I’m trying to filter out what exactly it is that I want. “freedom” isn’t an answer you’ll find acceptable.

New Moon: Fair. Chiron, you’re on team Venus this lunation, what’s up.

Chiron: Well. There’s been a time crunch seeing that we’re almost at our next stop— the nodes are involved here… and my ankle hurts.

New Moon: We’re aware. Let’s offer a status report: we’re working on our codependency issues, we’re navigating our selfish tendencies, and still have a ways to go in finding a harmonic point.

Chiron: preach.

New Moon: say more

Chiron: I’m halfway through this Aries phase and still trying to coordinate how to BE it rather than just DREAM it. I feel like I’m still in the dreaming phase or just stirring up enough energy to make this happen.

Venus: Okay, i’m ready.

New Moon in Capricorn: Whatcha got?

Venus: I want freedom

(Other planets groaning).

Venus: Uranus, help me out here.

Uranus: Dude, we may be limited by physics but that doesn’t mean we can’t roll differently here. Hey Siri — define “freedom.”

Siri: dictionary.com free-dom (noun) the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint.

Venus: case closed.

Uranus: this isn’t just about YOUR freedom, Venus.

Venus in Sagittarius: Uh, why not?

Uranus: Myopic, as usual… I may need Neptune in on this conversation.

Neptune: (nebulous fog concentrates itself into a cloud): present.

Uranus: Allow me to explain. Personal freedom is available when it is not imposing itself onto the rights and choices of others.

Neptune: For example, water rights.

Uranus: Yes exactly. Power flexes by governments and corporations..

New Moon and Saturn in concert: Watch it, pal — we need structure.

Uranus: Sure, sure sure, right right right. I’m not questioning the need for structure, rules, policy, and laws that help to shape personal freedom that does not impose on free will.

Saturn: Like accessible parking spaces.

Uranus: Right, we wouldn’t need to have signs protecting accessible spaces for those who have differing abilities if the majority of the population had the best interest of everyone in mind. At some point, maybe we don’t need those signs. We eventually won’t need policies to protect the environment because people will consciously know that this is their home and their nourishment and that they better take care of it.

Neptune: To be fair, they have a lot to pay attention to.

New Moon in Capricorn: That’s a big problem, isn’t it? Distraction!

Saturn: And capitalism. Big problem there. (lifts hand) partially responsible, there, sorry ‘bout that. I like order. And power.

Jupiter: We know.

Mercury: Attention is crucial. What we pay attention to is where our mental energy is funneled, and from there, emotional energy—

Mars: Hey now, Merc. I’m more rational in Capricorn. Sorry about what I said when I was in a fire sign.

Mercury: if I may finish— AND physical energy or action results. Or, inaction.

Mars: Then what’s the best course of action?

New Moon: Well, being that we are all activated right now, there are a lot of different motivators.

Mars: Divide and conquer it is then!

New Moon: Hold your horses, Mars.  Some tenderness would suit us here. Neptune, thoughts?

Neptune: You know, Pluto and I have been trying to contact them via the subconscious.

Pluto: Dream seeds, ya know.

Neptune: Weird ones.

Jupiter: Big ones.

New Moon: You’ve got some stake in this lunation, Jupiter. What’s going on with you?

Jupiter: Well, Uranus and I are in some preparations for a little conjunction coming up in April… but for the time being, Saturn and I are doing some benefic stuff —not generally their style, but I got them on board.

Saturn: Yea. I’m a bit more susceptible to influence while in Pisces.

Jupiter: Um, sure you are, Saturn. The big cue is a little joyous exertion — a little discipline in the name of growth and goals.

Neptune: But this is a journey without a goal, Jupe.

Jupiter: I mean, YES, but sometimes people need hope. Not all of us have that awareness that everything is already united in one consciousness, Neptune. Seriously, the rest of us are close to the Sun and we feel separate.

Saturn: Yeah, it’s dramatic over there.

Venus: You aren’t kidding.

Mars: Venus, we love drama, don’t get yourself into that detached state of being again.

Venus: Oh just you wait. Next month, babe.

Mars: (rolls eyes) We can only hope you go there and not full-on control mode.

New Moon: Chill, kids. Let’s gather our composure here. We’re trying to focus on the message we’re conveying this week. Jupiter, you go first.

Jupiter: How can we be pragmatic and altruistic simultaneously?

Mercury: How can we connect to all truths when there are so many available?

Mars: How can we build towards our vision with integrity?

Venus: How can working on our personal myth assist us in our liberation?

Pluto: What patterns are playing out that you’ve been missing?

Saturn: How can devotion play into our purpose?

Neptune: How can our imagination change the confines of our beliefs about the world?

Uranus: How can our individual liberation go hand in hand with universal liberation? How do we break free from the stories that confine our egos to such categorical limitations?

Chiron: And how can we be brave enough to make the changes we know will heal us?

New Moon: well, that’s a handful of visions, but they seem cohesive enough. Motion to adjourn?

Planets: ay!
