Sagittarius Full Moon

sadge uh tear ee us.
where are your shoulders right now?
and when was your last deep breath?
more importantly
when was your last laugh?
your last real laugh?
when was the last time you let go with such unaffected joy that tears streamed down your face and your belly ached and your rib muscles tore and your face hurt.
When was the last time you ate a bowl of cereal in your underwear, watching cartoons, content
nothing but wonder before you in the day ahead?
when was the last time you did something you truly loved
that erased time, wiped worry from your mind.
when was the last time you were (consensually) tickled and it caused you delight?
what about painting each one of your toenails and fingers a different tone of your collection of lacquer?
do you even have any construction paper in your cabinets? Bring the safety scissors!
turn off your screens and turn to electronics like an old radio, a cassette player, a walkman (if such things still exist!) and your favorite record, worn staticy in the best way, like a warm fuzzy sweater on a cold day.
where are your markers? Where are your brushes?
what happened to your walk to your best friend's house, door-knocking for play?
go buy a donut (if that’s okay).
this full moon is for wonder. to wander.
all work and no play makes you a dull adult.
if you make time to scroll —
you can find time for fun.

The Gemini Sun has contact with Gemini’s esoteric ruler Venus and Sagittarius traditional ruler, Jupiter.
While contemplating this lunation prior to a check in call with Jonah Emerson Bell, an ant crossed my path.
A solo ant, crawling before my eyes on the wall, about half way between floor and ceiling. This connection was all I needed to illustrate the connections of Gemini season and the sovereignty of Sagittarius.
Rarely do we see an ant alone. Where there is one, there are many. And the same is true of humans.
In a culture where the illusion of independence is creating a spectrum of crises - housing, resource, employment, space, misunderstandings — I want to believe that ants have something to teach us.
We may be isolated to our individual consciousness— in truth, I will never completely understand you, nor will you completely understand me. I will never fully comprehend the multitudes that is your mind, your heart, your experiences… though we try. We try to connect through story, through sharing, through communion.
If Sagittarius is the story teller and the campfire, Gemini are the listeners, the interest the desire for knowledge. Sagittarius is the experienced one, working towards cohesion and synthesis of their journey.
The loner cannot actually have an adventure on their own. The loner must ask for help, receive assistance, shelter, nourishment. The loner must trade their skills, provide mentorship as they have been mentored. The loner listens as much as they may offer advice, comfort and connection to the youth they come into contact with.
The youth, the community, are inspired by the loner — someone who went off on their own to experience the world. This need not be done through actual wandering, but the willingness to make and honor the space of being alone while making and honoring the space to be in this world.
The axis of the Gemini/Sagittarius is that solo ant — very much in solidarity with his community (think of the rich, laborious magic that a collective force of ants produce!) and the importance of what an ant may find when they are off foraging on their own account.
Full Moon and any tension of oppositions provide us that wisdom. By securing the balance between two very different but complementary energies we achieve harmony. Gemini reminds us that we are part of a greater collective— community that provides the opportunity for exchange and the fruits of connection, problem solving, frenetic, kinetic joy and curiosity. Sagittarius reflects that desire to go beyond the mundane, to experience existence beyond tangible facts and to move into the abstracts of consciousness, that feelings can be our guide, that synthesis moves beyond tidbits of information into the skillfulness of the master, beyond pain, beyond mundane connection. Sagittarius is that leap of faith into the abyss where we learn to trust everything we’ve known in attempt to return back to ultimate reality, authenticity and insight beyond sight.

The solo, non-commital wandering will always be met by the need for community. And our commitments (to community, to places, to projects) may challenge us to confront our desire for freedom.
The freedom/commitment strain is a real one, friend. To feel connected, we have to make commitments — even micro commitments. To feel free we need to know we have the option to pull away. But if we never get close, we may never experience intimacy. If we are always on the periphery, we feel like an outsider. If we are too enmeshed we can feel like we are losing ourselves, our individual identity.
Gemini and Sagittarius live in the tensions created by binaries. Sagittarius, the half-human, half-horse, transcendant and noble with its refined mind & all its experiences beneath a centaurean belt… beaneath that waistcoat is the animalistic, survival mode: guttaral, sensual, pleasure-seeking bliss chaser. That joyous, lusty nature waits ready to cut loose when the party is announced as willingly as its heart-mind and mouth is ready with story and insight when provoked. There is an important connection between our ability to investigate life, to synthesize and to seek to understand and the opportunity to celebrate and experience it while we live it, rather than dissecting every exchange.
Gemini’s dualism is mirrored by the stories of the twins of its namesake, by the portal created in its glyph and the as above, so below quality of its nature. Gemini lives in the space between, the secret third thing my friend Jonah likes to reference. Gemini’s air, as spirit, as liminal space, everywhere and nowhere at once. The tension between the material and the spiritual, the physical and the mental, the darkness and the light. All possibility exists in Gemini when we take what spark, what visions, what resources we have, shake them up in a jar and see what comes of it. This is the space and season of experimentation :
