aries new moon + solar eclipse

emerge, dear one.

The world is terrifying.

yet we exist.

There are monsters

both perceived or fabricated

and very much among us.

yet we exist.

what would it mean to emerge from your cocoon?

perhaps you melted entirely in there

returning to the primordial goo of your mind

and all its constructs.

perhaps you swam in those oceans

filled

swirling

with all your garbage

all your microplastics that never broke down.

tiny filaments scratching at your insides.

emerge, dear one.

realize you may clean your beaches

and heal your dunes.

that shore and mounds between you

and everything else

one piece of trash at a time

you need only walk

and walk slowly

and notice what beautiful shells there are to gather

and what garbage remains

left by your ancestors

yourself

and someone who hurt you.

sometimes we are responsible for other people’s mess

because we are the ones to acknowledge them as such.

the world is a mess.

but we are here.

and underneath it all there is beauty, inherent, there is intelligence, there is design that can not be categorized or understood because time is infinite

and our lives are finite.

so we do what we can

while we are here.

This Moon and the Sun in Aries is connected by degree to Chiron in Aries.

When I looked at this chart I said “Wow f*ck".”

And the eff word is transmutive (according to my mother), so feel free to transmute away with your exclamations.

I’m sure you’ve been bombarded with nonsense if you have stepped your eyeballs anywhere near social media. I’m sure you have been bombarded with chaos if you turn your eyes toward news of world events: a bridge collapses in Baltimore; an earthquake trembles New York City while another one topples Taiwan. There’s a comet with a catchy nickname of devil’s horns or something intimidating that we might be able to see, oh- wait, there’s a major total solar eclipse that is visible across North America? And WHAT it may be CLOUDY? “This is bullsh*t” some may proclaim or “It’s the end times!” (said many a terrified human throughout history).

Remember when Radiolab shared the worst year in human history and it was NOT in modern times (their estimate was 536 AD)? We humans have been through some serious wild times in the Anthropocene era. Perhaps it is caused by our limited perception that we label things as good or bad when what’s bad for us may benefit some other species or situation. Our ego may get in the way of clarity… and that ego may be attached to a capitalist corporation or tied to a group with which we are affiliated…

We are limited in our perspective. We are also limited by our lack of vision for the long haul— for periods outside of a lifetime.

Greatness is created when we consider generations of effort, concepts of the greater good that outlive our desire to see it through now and quickly and cheaply, and profitably.

We don’t always have a clear understanding of what is best for all involved, but we know when we see that something is fundamentally wrong.

What we have to understand— and very much highlighted by the Libra South Node’s pull on the Aries stellium — is that nonaction is a choice. Not making a choice is a choice.

I’m not sure what it is that you may be standing up for in your personal, professional and public life at the moment. But whatever is pissing you off is information. Whatever is causing you to grind your consciousness up before bedtime is providing you with information.

What irks us is our path. What irritates us is where we should be applying energy. We can’t wait for someone else to do it because that is not promised to the world.

Your sense of justice should be on fire right now.

That doesn’t need to be political, it can be personal. It can be at work, it can be witnessing; it can be speaking up, writing, moving in between to protect those that are vulnerable, and knowing when your vulnerability is that which needs protection.

To bring this narrative back to the astrological, I would like you to consider what it would mean to become the hero in your own story.

I would like for you to recognize where in relationships it is your role or commitment, then recognize when it is time to delegate, when it is time to intervene, and when it is best to just wait. Cool off. Communicate ten breaths after a flare gun of information has stunned your consciousness.

With the New Moon Aries Eclipse DIRECTLY conjunct to Chiron in Aries, we have to look towards our wounds for information.

Chiron reveals to us that the repetitive patterns in our lives are opportunities to innoculate our deepest wounds. The thing that has poisoned us is our healer. In homeopathic treatments, like with like is what heals the ailment. If you are allergic to bees, you expose yourself to microdoses of bee stings, or if you can’t sleep you take tiny micronized doses of caffeine, etc.

Chiron in Aries is the wound of being.

We may be finding a collective fear about being human, fears about being in this world, this big scary world that we have tried to cultivate, square off, label, and put into boxes in an attempt to control the uncontrollable forces of nature.

We all know that we have very little control over anything.

Except for our responses (when our nervous system is regulated).

How do we take up space? How do we gather the courage to exist in this wild world? How can we remember that we have a right to belong?

In Seasonal Archetypology, Ryan Evans teaches that spring, Aries season, is about practicing bravery. In the analogy of the seed stirring under the soil and finally emerging into the world at the surface, we are confronted with hungry rabbits who wish to eat us (if we are that aforementioned sprout) and the winds and rains that could knock us down or the unseasonably hot day that could fry us to a crisp if we aren’t big enough to contend. It takes bravery to hold your ground. It takes bravery to remember who you are and what kind of story you desire for yourself. It takes a lot of courage to let inspiration be your guiding star.

I hope you can reconcile a tiny fraction of your pain this eclipse. I hope you can give yourself the space to grieve, cry, scream, sigh, goblin out, or express your energy in a (hopefully) non-toxic way. Laughter is beautiful medicine! You don’t need to be productive. You just need to be right now. The energy is wild. But that’s the way the world is always — it is our perception that seeks stability in the truth of unknowns.

NOTES FROM THIS ONE…

I am so sorry if you’ve felt inundated with information about the solar eclipse on Monday.

Maybe don’t think about it too much.

If you are acting weird, just remember that animals act weird and confused during an eclipse.

And remember, you are an animal.

And it’s okay. It’s good that you are multitudes, that you have hunger and thirst and sensory experiences and maybe you get really turned on or really turned off, or that you are emotional or reactive, or that you are finally realizing you hate a snug fit of jeans and you have committed to only wearing pants with elastic waistbands from now on.

You are discovering yourself. And that is beautiful.

So, an Aries Sun and Libra Rising report from this one.

My birthday was fantastic. I turned forty and all I can say is that it is a miracle that I’ve lived this long. I like who I have become after many years of absolutely loathing myself and longing to be someone else. My inner child is speaking up to me and I am reconciling parts of myself at a fervent pace, all the while learning Spanish, completing graduate school, and navigating a different culture and environment.

I had my first bone break this past week, so that’s off the bucket list. Considering it is a tuft fracture on the tip of my right-hand ring finger, I seem to be typing okay.

May you never have a shopping cart bite you, lauren hickman

I was attempting to assist a man voraciously fighting with a pair of twin metal shopping carts that were locked at the basket and just as I moved to free one of the carts, the violence pulled the metal basket into the sky and my finger was trapped in it’s jaw.

I don’t recall the last time I cried that hard or felt that much pain. It was horrendous. And now it’s fine. So that’s good. But 10/10 do not recommend it. The irony of having worked IN a health food store for as many years as I have and getting bit by a wobbly wheeled nemesis such as a grocery cart is just hysterical to me.

Okay, so the lesson here.

I am moving to another apartment and am not able to use my right hand effectively or without pain.

I need help. I need to recognize my limitations and ask and receive support.

Turns out I am not good at this.

I had to ask my partner for support. They washed my hair for me. They sat with me while I cried and held space for me while processing my inner child hang-ups about being needy and having a sensory overwhelm freeze-up in a pharmacy deciding on finger splints.

It is hard to see our trauma responses until they are absent of the initial trigger, imo. My reactivity was that of previous moments where there was no patience, or how I had repressed so much need for attention and just, you know— basic personhood when I was in pain.

When I first glanced at this astrology chart for Monday’s New Moon — it felt like a painful new beginning. Like birth. Like confrontation. Like genesis.

The marriage of the nodes — two opposing forces pulling at one another — is recognizing the gifts of both sides and the shadows to them. Just as in partnership when we “fill in the gaps” (I love that line from Rocky) there is a give and take.

Aries being individualistic by nature is important for other focused Libra to understand. Everyone is valuable. It’s easy to romanticize others as being more important than us, and difficult to fall in love with ourselves.

Aries needs to recognize the importance of people and collaboration and recognize how the unique gifts and perspectives of each person lend to the overall harmony that Libra loves to achieve.

There is no “most specialist” of all. There is no prize for being the best human because there is no such thing. Just like in a Miyazaki film, there are no bad guys, just complicated people who have become hungry for power, and domination, or contain ridiculous and selfish motivations.

There is room for everyone — including you. You can take up space. You can ask for help. You can offer assistance. You can participate and belong.

Don’t fear the eclipse. This is just another part of the story.

stay inspired.
